Inspired by Fred Astaire. It was a big challenge to mimic an incredible dancer. Key was solid blocking. As long as blocking is good(with stepped curve-yeah, pain to work), result comes out great. For rendering, mental ray does its job with liner workflow, which make a huge difference.

One of the ridiculous computer animation ever!
I struggled with gimbal lock, Euler equation helped it a lot, but it didn’t cure everything. Good news is though, I started to understand how to avoid this problem. Yay!

Pose study! To become a good animator, we need to understand still pose first! I made 10 poses with ‘Buckid’ model(downloaded from Creativecrash), and nicely rendered in studio setting, which composed with 2 key lights and 1 indirect light. Renderer is mental ray. Some poses are really good, others are not. I tried to take care of every elements, but chances are it is not perfect

He is one of great characters in movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” I inspired from this movie, select a tiny part of beautiful stop animation, and make a simple animation. Main focus was animation itself, so I didn’t care about rendering so much.
Another point is that I want to keep my character’s personality. Although my flour sack acts Oogieman, this guy is still a fat flour sack!(Look at the texture…lol) So motion is not exactly same, but in my opinion, it looks better than extending flour sack character’s ears and feet too much.

Anchorman lipsync test.
I picked the movie “Anchorman” for a lipsync test in maya.
Because maya is so awesome, I had framerate issue. I tried fix that in After effect, I failed at that time.
I learned a lot during this process, and I enjoyed this job a lot!
